What’s your name, major and where are you from?
My name is Sally Albright and I am from Edgewater, Maryland. At the end of Fall term 2019, I will earn two Honors B.S. degrees in Environmental Sciences and Earth Science (Ocean Science Option).
What is the most challenging part of being in the Honors College?
The most challenging (and simultaneously most rewarding) part of my experience in the Honors College has been my Honors Thesis project. I went through several projects before finally deciding on developing a Green Lab Certification program for Oregon State University. This project took over a year to complete and is something that I am beyond proud to have been apart of.
What is your favorite thing about OSU? Why did you decide to come here?
My favorite thing about OSU is the community, or as I consider it, the family. Both the Honors College and the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences have embraced and welcomed me since Day 1, and because of that, I am graduating OSU with much more than just a degree.
What has been the hardest class you’ve taken to date? Your favorite class so far?
The hardest class I took was the Physics series (PH 201, PH 202). This class was very far out of my comfort zone, but I learned so much and have applied it to work in my field several times since completing the course. My favorite class was an Honors Colloquia Course (HC 407) called, “Survivalism, because it’s there.” This class allowed me to delve into social science and the psychology of survivalism with students from many different fields of study, and it is one that I always recommend HC students take if they have the opportunity.
Something most people don’t know about you/ any hidden talents?
I was involved in band for over 13 years, and though I don’t claim to be a very talented musician, I will always love and appreciate music for the rest of my life as a result of this chapter of my life. I mostly played Clarinet (including in the OSU Marching Band my freshman year) and Baritone Saxophone.
