Thayne R. Dutson became dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences and director of the Oregon Agricultural Experiment Station in 1993. He earned his bachelor's degree at Utah State University and his master's degree and doctorate at Michigan State University. He also was postdoctoral fellow at the University of Nottingham in England.
Dr. Dutson is chairman of the board of directors of the American Distance Education Consortium (ADEC) and serves on the board of directors of the Oregon Garden Foundation. He is past president of the Council for Agricultural Sciences and Technology, is on the board of directors of the American Meat Science Association, and is a member of many societies, organizations, and boards, including the American Institute of Nutrition, Institute of Food Technologists, and Phi Kappa Phi.
Not only does the college offer numerous popular undergraduate and graduate degree programs on campus and through distance education, but it also is committed to public service. That public service includes an active Extension agriculture program in Oregon. If you're an Oregonian, chances are there's an Extension agriculture faculty member in an office not far from where you live.
