READY TO GRADUATE?  Follow this handy TO-DO list to make sure you graduate on Time!

To participate in commencement, you must file an application for graduation with the Registrar’s office. You must also be a graduate or anticipated graduate of the Summer 2016, Fall 2016, Winter 2017, Spring 2017, Summer 2017 or Fall 2017.

Masters & PhD’s must have completed their degree requirements by the Spring Term deadline or at the end of Summer Term to be eligible to attend the Spring 2017 ceremony.  Go to http://gradschool.oregonstate.edu/success/commencement for more details.

If you are a Summer 2017 undergraduate degree candidate, the clearance of your degree will take place at the end of summer term. Likewise, if you are a Fall 2017 undergraduate degree candidate, the clearance for your degree will take place at the end of Fall Term.

Contact the Registrar’s office at 541-737-4331 or in 102 Kerr Administration Building if your plans change and you are unable to attend the ceremony.

The Registrar’s office will send important commencement information to all graduating students in April.

The commencement ceremony takes place on Saturday, June 17 starting at 10:30 a.m. (when graduates enter the stadium)

Cap and Gown

All candidates must wear traditional cap and gown. You can buy yours at Grad Fair, April 24 & 25, and at the OSU Beaverstore. Cap and Gowns will be available online at osubeaverstore.com starting April 20. Online orders may be shipped directly or be held for pickup. Honor Cords are not available for purchase online but can be requested to be added to the order by emailing the grad.shop@osubeaverstore.com.  For inquiries please call 800-595-0357 or email at grad.shop@osubeaverstore.com


If you are a Spring 2017 graduate, your instructors will submit preliminary grades for your in-progress course work.  If you preliminary grades meet requirements for your degree, you will receive your diploma at Commencement.   This is based on preliminary grades and does NOT assure your degree will be awarded.  This will be determined after final grades are awarded and the degree clearance process is complete.

Summer 2016, Fall 2016 and Winter 2017 graduates who did not already pick up their diploma will also receive this at Commencement.  Summer 2017 and Fall 2017 degree candidates will receive a letter thanking them for their participation.

Should you decide not to attend the ceremony, you may pick up your diploma at the Registrar’s office beginning Monday, June 19 at noon. You may also have your diploma mailed.

Stadium Access and Seating

  • Guests may enter Reser Stadium through Gates A, B C and H at the corner of 26th Street and Ralph Miller Drive. (Ralph Miller Way will not have vehicle access 6am - 11am) | (26th Street will not have vehicle access 8am - 11am)  See a list of all campus road closures here.
  • Gates open at 9:00am


No tickets are required. Available based on a first-come first-serve basis.  Gates open at 9:00 a.m.

Marshals will give you instructions and place you in correct numerical order. You must maintain your exact order in line to ensure you get your diploma. An information Booth located in the MU Quad can give you directions or answer questions.

President’s Reception

President Ray invites graduates, members of their families and guests to a reception at the CH2M HILL Alumni Center Ballroom immediately following the Commencement Ceremony.  This reception features light refreshments and great photo opportunities.


Lifetouch™, the official Commencement photographer, will photograph all graduates at the ceremony. After Commencement, you can view pictures online at http://events.lifetouch.com/Oregonstate or call the customer service department at 800-505-9496 - Monday-Friday 8:00am - 6:00pm EST. Complete a registration card with your email address during the line up, and Lifetouch™, will email picture proofs within 24 hours after the ceremony.

There will also be university photographers covering the commencement ceremony. These images will be used to promote Oregon State University and will not be used for other purposes or by outside organizations. Commencement Video

Assistance for Students with Disabilities

Students with disabilities who may need accommodations at commencement should contact the Registrar’s office.

Assistance for Guests with Disabilities or Medical Needs

Assistance is available to accommodate guests with a hearing loss, mobility challenges and accessible seating and parking needs. Guests who are sensitive to outdoor conditions or would be more comfortable in auditorium seating may view the televised ceremony from the club section of Reser Stadium. Alcohol and Smoking

Alcoholic beverages and smoking are prohibited in Reser Stadium. Please do not bring alcohol to the lineup, processional or ceremony.
