Shannon Lipscomb thinks
about students of all ages,
especially the youngest.
A professor in the human
development and family sciences
program, Shannon’s research team
includes experienced investigators
and undergraduate students.
Together they examine ways to
help our youngest children stay
safe at home and thrive at school.
In one project, researchers are
helping teachers and child care
providers encourage resilience
in preschool children who have
experienced trauma. The work is
hard, and important. Everyone
learns from each other.

pushes himself —
and drones — to
go further.
Improving drones’ performance means they
can stay in the air longer to watch for forest
fi res or fl y faster to the scene to aid in search
and rescue eff orts.
“Being a part of propulsion development feels
like being a part of going further and faster than
humans have gone before,” said Sean.
He worked with Professor Chris Hagen in the
Energy Systems Lab at OSU-Cascades to develop
a hybrid powertrain that combines the benefi ts of
an electric motor and gas engine, so that drones
can take-off easier and fl y longer.
