SEE THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE DOCTOR-
PATIENT RELATIONSHIP, FIRSTHAND.
Patients develop a sense of trust with their doctors, and you
can see for yourself by observing medical professionals in their
element. Get a glimpse of clinic life. Interact with patients one-
on-one. Work in preceptorships in pre-medicine programs and
spend time observing patient care, community health, office
procedures and other aspects of your preceptor’s career.
You can also volunteer or train to work in a medical support
role like medical scribing, phlebotomy or as an emergency
medical technician. Each will help you discover your fit in a
particular area or specialty, and you can see how different
professions match your personal values and abilities.
Your professors, department and college, as well as the Oregon
State Career Development Center, can help you apply for an
internship and find support role trainings.
Oregon State also offers an application workshop series to
help you apply to medical school. These workshops include
informational sessions and discussions about health care issues,
along with assistance at every step of the application process.
LEARN BEYOND THE CLASSROOM.
Oregon State offers a resource-rich environment that
encourages you to combine your studies in pre-medicine
with opportunities like the Honors College and study abroad
programs. You’ll find challenging and rewarding experiences
that support your academic, professional and personal growth
— and have fun, too.
DISCOVER, TEST AND SOLVE
THROUGH RESEARCH.
Like internships, research experience can give you an advantage
when applying to medical school and professional programs.
In most health areas, you’ll have opportunities to make
contributions to faculty and graduate students’ research
projects — or pursue your own.
