CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State University recognized the achievements of more than two dozen leading faculty and staff members with some of its most prestigious annual awards this week as part of University Day, the annual kick-off of the new school year.
The awards were formally presented at an evening banquet, and the recipients also were also honored during a presentation to the campus at LaSells Stewart Center as part of University Day events.
This year’s award recipients are:
Beaver Champion Award: Amas Aduviri, director of College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) and Lynda Ciuffetti, professor of Botany and Plant Pathology.
The Student Learning and Success Teamwork Award: College of Liberal Arts’ Department of Foreign Languages & Literatures Spanish instructors and professors – Loren Chavarria, Juan Antonio Trujillo and Susana Rivera-Mills.
The Excellence in Graduate Mentoring Award: Carol Mallory-Smith, a professor in the Department of Crop and Soil Science with the College of Agricultural Sciences.
The OSU Academic Advising Award: Polly Jeneva, head adviser for student services in the College of Liberal Arts.
The Outstanding Faculty Research Assistant Award: Brian Arbogast, a senior faculty research assistant in the Department of Chemistry with the College of Science.
The Herbert F. Frolander Graduate Teaching Assistant Award: Sarah Eddy, a PhD student in the Department of Zoology with the College of Science.
The OSU Award for Outstanding Service to Persons with Disabilitie: The late David Bradford, a recent master’s graduate from the Department of Geosciences.
The OSU Exemplary Employee Award: Michelle Eck, academic adviser in the School of Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering in the College of Engineering, and Sue Hall, an accountant in the payroll office with Business Affairs.
The Karel J. H. Murphy Professional Faculty Leadership and Service Award: Kate Halischak, director of the Academics for Student Athletes Office.
The University Professional Development Award: Janet Webster, head librarian at the Marilyn Potts Guin Library (at OSU’s Hatfield Marine Science Center) with the Oregon State University Libraries.
The OSU Extended Education Faculty Achievement Award: Melodie Putnam, Extension plant pathologist in the Department of Botany and Plant Pathology with the College of Agricultural Sciences.
The OSU Professional Faculty Excellence Award: Joey Carson in the Department of Chemistry in the College of Science.
International Service Award: Sunil Khanna, associate professor of Anthropology with the College of Liberal Arts.
The Dar Reese Excellence in Advising Award: James Kiser, an Instructor in the Department of Forest Engineering, Resources & Management in the College of Forestry
The OSU Faculty Teaching Excellence Award: Sarah Henderson, an associate professor in the Department of Political Science with the College of Liberal Arts.
The D. Curtis Mumford Faculty Service Award: Sally Bowman, assistant program leader with Extension Family and Community Development and associate professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences with the College of Health and Human Sciences.
The Richard M. Bressler Senior Faculty Teaching Award: Shoichi Kumura, a professor in the School of Chemical, Biological and Environmental Engineering with the College of Engineering.
The Elizabeth P. Ritchie Distinguished Professor Award: Bradley Cardinal, a professor in the Department of Nutrition and Exercise Sciences with the College of Health and Human Sciences.
The OSU Alumni Association Distinguished Professor Award: David Williams, director of the NIEHS Marine/Freshwater Biomedical Sciences Center.
The Promising Scholar Award: Jamie Kruzic, associate professor in the School of Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering in the College of Engineering.
The OSU Impact Award for Outstanding Scholarship: David Kim and J. David Porter, associate professors with the School of Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering with the College of Engineering.
