Statement of Wonderfulness
In Celebration of
You’ve seen her. You’ve laughed with her. You’ve been infected by her enthusiasm.
She’s tireless, energetic, creative, effective, amazing, funny, knowledgeable, approachable and professional….. Believe me; I could go on and on and on! I’ll bet she inspired most of us in this room to purchase a pedometer and use it to count our steps during the Student Affairs Beaver Strides challenge last year.
You’ve probably all figured out that I’m talking about none other than Malinda Shell.
Malinda is a Health Educator in Student Health Services. She is a generalist, which means that she does outreach education on a variety of topics, including but not limited to sexual health and smoking cessation. She does health coaching, supervises health promotion student assistants, teaches health and culture in a peer theatre class and collaborates with the team at Dixon Recreation on the Health and Fitness Connection.
Malinda is committed to a just and caring community as demonstrated by her work with the Voices project and the Cultural Awareness committee. She integrates all aspects of multiculturalism into her daily work and works tirelessly to create an inclusive environment.
Malinda is an engaging teacher, and an inspired student. She encourages her students to stretch themselves. She goes above and beyond what is expected of her to assist in creating a respectful discourse among the students. She is constantly learning, willing to try new things and the creative force behind a number of new programs over the years.
As a health coach and a teacher Malinda is always nurturing and respectful. She is open and nonjudgmental. It is safe to share ideas with her. She has high standards and encourages responsibility and follow-through. Nothing she doesn’t model.
Malinda is the type of coworker that everyone hopes to have a chance to work with during their career. She has an energy and spirit that rejuvenate the people she is surrounded by. She is always willing to lend a hand. Malinda is a remarkable friend, coworker, leader, and person.
Malinda loves to celebrate life. She is mindful of the significant events in the lives of the students and staff she works with and is instrumental in organizing recognition of special occasions. She is always one of the first to volunteer to serve on the committee that organizes the annual Student Affairs Service awards celebration. I think that it is very fitting that today we celebrate Malinda.
