I.        APPROVAL OF MINUTES: (1) The minutes of 6/14/01 were approved. (2) The minutes of 10/4/01 were approved following correction of members present.

 

II.      REPORT FROM ACADEMIC AFFAIRS: (G. Beach)

 

A.      The Abbreviated Category I for the Rename of the Department of Nuclear Engineering to the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Radiation Health Physics was transmitted to the Chancellor's Office. The proposal will be placed on the Academic Council agenda.

B.      A preliminary review of the Abbreviated Category I proposal for the renaming the College of Home Economics and Education and the College of Health and Human Performance to the College of Health and Human Sciences was completed. The proposal will be formally submitted to the Office of Academic Programs next week.

C.      A preliminary review meeting with Rebecca Johnson is tentatively scheduled for next week in regards to the Category I proposal to establish a Baccalaureate degree in Outdoor Recreation Leadership and Tourism.

D.      At one of the November meetings, the Curriculum Council will consider the Category I proposal to establish a Master of Arts in Applied Ethics.

E.       UAPR, GAPR, CSREES review of the Department of Agriculture and Resource Economics is scheduled for Monday. October 22, 2001.

 

III.    REPORT FROM THE CHAIR: (M. Quinn)

 

A.      The Faculty Senate Executive Council decided not to consider a proposed Joint Resolution on Resources and Programs of the Curriculum Council and Budgets and Fiscal Planning Committee The EC felt the budget deficit and redesign discussions currently on-going preempted the need for such a resolution. The Resolution will not go forward to the full Faculty Senate.

 

IV.    OLD BUSINESS

 

A.      The Process for Review of Non-credit Professional Certificate Programs was approved. Some corrections will need to be made prior to placing it in the Curricular Procedures Handbook.

B.      The Department of Zoology Academic Program Review report was presented by Irma Delson. This was a joint review with the Graduate Council. The Zoology degree programs and department were found to be one of the strongest in the United States. Nevertheless, the facilities and resources needed to support this program were found to be inadequate. The report was accepted with thanks. Vote: 6-0-1 to accept.

 

V.      NEW BUSINESS

 

A.      The Category I Proposal for renaming the Department of Forest Products to the Department of Wood Science and Engineering was approved 6-0-1 and will be sent forward to the Faculty Senate Executive Committee on October 19th, 2001. The use of "Engineering" in the title of the department was questioned.

B.      The Category I Proposal for renaming the B.S. in Forest Products to the B.S. in Wood Science and Technology was approved 7-0. The transmittal cover sheet needed to be corrected from "elimination" to "rename". This proposal will be held and sent to the Faculty Senate Executive Committee with the Category I Proposal for renaming the M.S. and Ph.D. in Forest Products to the M.S. and Ph.D. in Wood Science once approved by the Graduate Council.

C.      The Category I Proposal for renaming the M.S. and Ph.D. in Forest Products to the M.S. and Ph.D. in Wood Science was approved 7-0 contingent upon approval by the Graduate Council at their October 25, 2001 meeting.
