Student Learning and Success Teamwork Award

This award is to recognize departments or interdisciplinary groups at Oregon State University that have demonstrated exceptional teamwork in creating and sustaining an exemplary teaching and learning environment to advance the University's strategic goal of student success and excellence. This award will be made annually at University Day, and includes $5,000 for the departments or groups to support student learning and success activities.

Any department or interdisciplinary group that includes members from the University's eleven academic colleges: Agricultural Sciences, Business, Education, Engineering, Forestry, Public Health and Human Sciences, Liberal Arts, Science, Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences, Pharmacy, and Veterinary Medicine (including representation from any of these units at OSU-Cascades). Members of interdisciplinary groups can come from other OSU units, in partnership with members from the academic colleges.

This award will be made to departments or interdisciplinary groups that:

  • came together to make OSU's strategic planning goal to "provide an excellent teaching and learning environment" a reality;
  • contributed significantly to their departments' and Colleges' goals for student success;
  • demonstrated excellence and innovation in student mentoring, teaching and curriculum development;
  • demonstrated initiative in sharing their ideas with the broader university community.
  • Professional Development: Pursuing professional development such as attendance or presentation at seminars and conferences, at OSU or elsewhere.

Nomination Process

Supporting documents shall include: (l) the completed nomination form; and (2) three letters of nomination: two letters shall be from current or former faculty or staff, and one letter shall be from a current or former student or student group that has benefited from the team's endeavors. Because the nominator completes the nomination form, the nominator is not eligible to submit a letter of support. Letters should address how the departments or interdisciplinary groups have met the criteria. The letters of support each shall not exceed two single-sided pages, 12-point font, with one-inch margins. Signatures on the letters and supporting documents must be included.

The original copy of the nomination form must be submitted to the Faculty Senate Office upon submission of the electronic copy; paper clip the original only – do not staple nor place it in a folder or binder. The nomination packet for the successful recipient becomes the property of University Archives and will not be returned to the nominator.

Selection Process

Nominations will be reviewed and selected by the Faculty Recognition and Awards Committee. Committee recommendations will be made on the basis of the information submitted; the committee does not solicit additional information.
