The agenda for the June Senate meeting will include the reports and other
items of business listed below.
Academic Regulations 17 Proposed Revisions
Sherri Argyres, Academic Regulations Committee member, will present for approval revisions to AR 17.
Proposed Standing Rules Revisions
Sherri Argures, Committee on Committees member, will present for approval the following proposed Standing Rules revisions:
- Diversity Council
- Library Committee
- Student Recognition and Awards Committee
Consideration of Degree Candidates
Barbara Balz, Registrar, will present the recommended lists of degree candidates
for Senior Honors, Baccalaureate Degree Candidates, and Advanced Degrees. The
Faculty Senate is asked to approve these candidates on behalf of the Faculty
of the University. These candidates have been certified by the appropriate
academic units, committees, and councils. Attached is the
Registrar's Memorandum that outlines the policies and procedures for the review
and approval for degree candidates.
Faculty Panels for Hearing Committee Election
The Board's Administrative Rules define criteria and procedures for the imposition
of sanctions for cause, including termination of appointment (OAR 580-21-320 through
580-21-375). If such a sanction is to be imposed, the faculty member is entitled to
a formal hearing of charges by a hearing committee to be selected from a faculty
panel that has been duly established. Nominees for each new panel are randomly
selected. Faculty Panels for Hearing Committees are elected on even numbered years.
Ballots will be distributed at the meeting; balloting for ten primary members will be
limited to Senators or their official representatives.
Discussion with President Ray
President Ray will take questions from the floor.
Mina Carson will provide a brief recap of the June IFS meeting.
Category I Approvals
The following OSU Abbreviated Category I proposal has been approved by the OUS Provost's Council:
Degree Name Change: The B.S., M.S., Ph.D., M.Agr., and the MAIS degrees and the graduate
and undergraduate minors in Rangeland Resources will change to Rangeland Ecology and
Department: Rangeland Ecology and Management; College: Agricultural Sciences; Effective
Term: Fall Term 2006; Faculty Senate Approval: March 9, 2006
The following OSU Category I proposal has been approved by the Oregon State
Board of Higher Education on May 5, 2006.
Initiation of a New Degree Program - B.S. Degree in Forest Operations Management
Department: Forest Engineering; College: Forestry; Effective Term: Fall Term 2006
University Day 2006
University Day is scheduled for September 21, 2006 - please mark your calendars.
Annual committee/council reports submitted by Faculty Senate chairs
are due July 15 to allow committees/councils to fully report their
activities through June 30. Annual
reports will be published on the
Faculty Senate website.
Please notify the Faculty Senate Office if a sabbatical, leave or retirement will prevent
you from completing your term as either a Senator or Faculty Senate committee/council member.
If you are gone more than one term, exclusive of summer term, a replacement is required. This
information will assist us in identifying a replacement. Senators and committee/council
members immediately continuing on a 1039-hour appointment may retain their position as
long as the temporary appointment continues or until the end of their appointed/elected
term, whichever comes first.
Faculty Senate Calendar
Please reserve the following dates for Faculty Senate meetings during fall term:
October 12, November 9, and December 7 (note that December 7 is the first Thursday
of the month). Check your monthly agenda to determine the location. All meetings are
scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM.
