Pride Center Advisory Board Guidelines


Membership and Service:


The Pride Center Advisory Board members serve as advisors to the LGBTQQIA community and to act as a resource to the Pride Center staff on the history of the LGBTQQIA community at OSU.

The Pride Center Advisory Board members are dedicated individuals who commit to the affirmation of LGBTQQIA identified students at Oregon State University and uphold the Mission Statement of the Pride Center.

The Pride Center Advisory Board meets on a regular basis and is in constant communication with Pride Center staff to address issues affecting the LGBTQQIA community at OSU.  Pride Center Advisory Board members provide expertise, advice and support to the Pride Center.

Pride Center Advisory Board members provide information to other communities, groups and organizations about Pride Center events and activities.

Composition:


The Pride Center Advisory Board is comprised of at least fifteen (15) members in addition to the Coordinators:

At least 5

 

OSU Staff or Faculty Representatives: Must be faculty/staff of the current academic year

At least 1

 

Community at Large Representative Could include former staff, faculty and/or students

At least 1 per

organization

 

Student Organization Representatives

organization Must be representative of an LGBT group associated with OSU

At least 4

 

Student at Large Representatives Must be a currently enrolled OSU student, at least one must be a graduate student


The Pride Center Coordinators shall serve as the conveners of the Advisory Board.

The Director of Diversity Development, Director of LGBT Outreach and Services, and former Pride Center Coordinators shall serve as ex-officio members of the Advisory Board.


Advisory Board Selection:

  1. Selection Timeline
    Advisory Board members are selected as needed during the academic year.
  2. Selection Process:
    Faculty, Staff and Community Representatives: Members of the current Advisory Board are encouraged to recommend candidates for the Advisory Board membership. The current Advisory Board will vote on all nominations and all approved nominees will be asked to join the Board by the Pride Center Coordinators.

    Student Organization Representatives:
    The hired or elected coordinators of the LGBT student organizations are members of the Advisory Board by virtue of their leadership positions.

    Student Representatives: A member of the current Advisory Board is encouraged to nominate student candidates for Advisory Board membership. The current Advisory Board will vote on all student nominations and all approved nominees will be asked to join by the Pride Center Coordinators.
  3. Reappointment:
    Current members of the Pride Center Advisory Board may nominate an outgoing member to continue for another term.  The current Advisory Board will vote on all nominations and all approved nominees will be asked to continue by the Pride Center Coordinators.
  4. Length of terms:
    Faculty, Staff and Community Representatives:Advisory Board membership is for two academic years on a staggering basis. 

    LGBT Student Organization Representatives:Advisory Board membership is for the length of the position.

    Student Representatives: Advisory Board membership is for one academic year.


Advisory Board Members Responsibilities:

  1. Advisory Board Members attend all meetings. If consistent attendance is a clear challenge, board members will be asked to withdraw from their appointment.
  2. The Pride Center Coordinators will send out meeting minutes within one (1) week of the previous Advisory Board meeting so that members not in attendance will be able to provide input to issues addressed at the meeting in a timely manner.
  3. Members of the Advisory Board coordinate and serve on at least one subcommittee during each year.  Committees include the following: Lavender Graduation, Facilities & Expansion, Budget & Support, Personnel Selection Committee, National Coming Out Week, Recruitment, Alumni, and others as necessary.
  4. Advisory Board members participate in Pride Center activities and events.

Important: Unless there is a standing conflict previously known to the Pride Center Coordinators, you must let the Pride Center Coordinators know at least 24 hours in advance if you will not be in attendance at an Advisory Board meeting.
