July 24, 1pm. Summer Picnic! Join the OPA board and other postdocs for a wholesome mid-summer BBQ! Don’t miss this great opportunity to meet other postdocs from different colleges and to enjoy some quality time with your colleagues. Food and beverages will be provided and vegetarian options will be available. A volleyball set will be ready to burn off some of those burgers and raffle prizes will be given to some lucky attendants. The winners of the 2016 OPA Spring Professional Development Awards will be officially announced too. This event is open to the public so family and significant others are more than welcome. OPA 2016 Summer Picnic

July 27, noon. Pizza Lunch Forum Series. "Orchestrating a Powerful Group": Successful Team-Work in Academic Research. Facilitated by Prof. Jeffrey McDonnell. Most academic, and non-academic, research is conducted in groups or teams. The dynamic of these groups has a significant impact on the output of individual group members and of the group as a whole. Prof. McDonnell has recently shared his vision and experiences on academic team-work in an article published in Science and will discuss strategies and techniques to create and maintain successful and cooperative research groups.
