The Oregon State University Postdoctoral Association (OPA) is a post-doc organization which provides opportunities for professional development and networking for all OSU-affiliated postdocs. We also work with the Associate Dean at the Office of Postdoctoral Programs (OPP) in the Graduate School to improve the post-doctoral experience across OSU. Check out the OPP newsletters on their site.
Feb 18th, Academic & Professional Devleopment event: Tenure-track faculty positions are becoming so scarce that they may be considered “alternative” for many graduate students and postdocs. Is it time for you to look beyond academe for a suitable career path? The OPA is pleased to host Dr. Leah Frye, Vice President of the Drug Discovery Group at Schrödinger LLC and Affiliate Professor in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at Oregon Health & Science University, for a discussion on academic vs. non-academic careers. See the flyer below for further details.
Feb 25th, Board Meeting of the OPA: Join us in the Hallie Ford Center (Room 127, 4pm) to plan future events relevant to the OSU postdoctoral community.
Feb 25th, Elevator Pitch Workshop (Peers & Beers): What would you say in a minute to a member of a hiring committee whom you meet unexpectedly in an elevator? How can you pitch your research in a short speech to catch the attention of a prospective employer? Honing this skill may be key to advance your career and to introduce yourself and your work effectively. Come and join us to practice your “elevator pitch” Free appetizers will be provided!
