From 10:00 pm on Saturday, Dec. 21 to 7:00 am on Sunday, Dec. 22, Information Services will be upgrading the network firewall and other network services. During this time, we will experience a few brief interruptions to most core network services lasting anywhere from a few seconds to 6 minutes.
The exact timing of these interruptions cannot be defined in advance and may occur at any point during the overnight maintenance window. Specifically:
- OSU will be briefly isolated from the Internet a few different times during the night, affecting inbound and outbound connections, including wireless access.
- Networked systems will experience service interruptions. Accordingly, IT administrators may wish to turn off automated paging systems, or otherwise be aware that monitoring alarms will likely be triggered due to network unavailability.
- VoIP phones will experience service interruptions. Standard phone service will not be affected.
Following best practices, these upgrades have already been performed successfully in a development environment, with minimal disruption to that environment. The weekend upgrade has been coordinated with Blackboard developers and other stakeholders to reduce possible impacts to academic and business activities.
