Developing Strategic International Partnerships

International institutional partnerships are increasingly an imperative in higher education.  Robust collaboration, whether  it's focused on a global classroom, cutting-edge scholarship or other types of engagement, can result in measurable benefits to both partners’ internationalization goals and objectives.  The following section provide a very brief list of key considerations.  For further information, refer to the resources listed below and/or contact International Programs.

Key Considerations

  • Identify motivating factors (ie. individual/groups of faculty)
  • Identify primary and secondary objectives
  • Examine alignment with College's and University's strategic goals
  • Examine quality and integrity of potental partner
  • Examine institutional compatibility (similar/complementary)
  • Examine regulatory and/or language issues and other areas for potential roadblocks
  • Examine existing connections, geographic
  • Identify areas of mutual benefit; common projects and interests
  • Determine whether sufficient support exists (eg. resources and structures to support partnership over time)
