Changes to Conditional Admissions Options for International Students

We are very pleased to announce some exciting changes for international students who want to come to OSU but may not yet meet our English proficiency requirements.  As many of you are aware, the Conditional Admission Program (CAP) has been a long-standing bridge program that allows students to begin their degree program while taking some Intensive English courses until they meet the English language requirements for their program.  With the INTO OSU Pathway and Academic English programs, the options available for students and academic departments have changed, and thus the CAP program is changing, as well.  Now in their fifth year, the Pathway programs have proven to offer exceptional academic support and service to undergraduate and graduate students who need some additional intensive English or academic preparation in order to be successful in their degree programs.  Academic departments have let us know that they appreciate partnering with INTO OSU staff to streamline courses and programs so that students have a better student experience.

For undergraduate students, the Conditional Admission Program (CAP) is now being offered through the Undergraduate Pathway programs, including accelerated Pathway programs, which provide appropriate language training and access to academic courses for students who meet GPA and language requirements.

The Conditional Admission Program (CAP) for graduate students is changing to the Transitional Admission Program (TAP) which will continue to allow students to enroll in English language classes while pursuing their academic studies. Graduate students who are not specifically selected for the TAP program can enter OSU either through direct admission or through one of the many intensive English or academic preparation programs at INTO OSU.

Students already admitted to or currently enrolled in the Conditional Admission Program (CAP) as of December 16, 2013 will be accommodated and provided the CAP program as admitted (this includes CAP students currently taking Academic English courses only).  These legacy CAP students will also be provided the option to change their program to an Undergraduate Pathway program if they choose.
