Configuring Microsoft Outlook 2007
To set up Outlook 2007 for use with your ONID e-mail account, please take the following steps:
- Set up Outlook 2007 to check your ONID e-mail
- Configure Outlook 2007 to use the OSU Online Directory
- Make directory.oregonstate.edu your default address book
- Removing an account from Outlook 2007
Set up Outlook 2007 to check your ONID e-mail
- Open Outlook 2007
- Open the Tools menu and choose Account Settings.
- Click on the E-mail tab and click New....
- Check the Manually configure server settings or additional server types box and click Next.
- Choose Internet E-mail and click Next.
- Under the User Informationsection:
- Enter your full name in the Your name: box
- Enter your full ONID e-mail address (user(at)onid.orst.edu) in the E-mail Address: box
- Under the Server Informationsection:
- Change the Account Type dropdown menu to IMAP
- Incoming mail server (IMAP): imap.onid.oregonstate.edu
- Outgoing mail server (SMTP): mail.oregonstate.edu
- Under the Logon Informationsection:
- Enter your ONID username in the User name: box
- Enter your email password in the Password: box

- Click the More Settings... button.
- Click on the Outgoing Server tab.
- Check both the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" box and the "Use same settings as my incoming mail server box.

- Click on the Advanced tab.
- Under Incoming server (IMAP), select TLS from the Use the following type of encrypted connection drop-down list.
- Under Outgoing server (SMTP), select TLS from the Use the following type of encrypted connection drop-down list.
- If the port number under Outgoing server (SMTP) is set to 25, change this port number to 587

- Click OK.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.
Configure Outlook 2007 to use the OSU Online Directory
- Open Outlook 2007.
- Open the Tools menu and choose Account Settings.
- Click on the Address Books tab and click New....
- Choose Internet Directory Service (LDAP) and click Next.
- Type directory.oregonstate.edu in the Server Name: field.
- Click the More Settings... button.
- Click OK when warned that you must restart Outlook
- Click the Search tab.
- Under Search Base, choose Custom and type o=orst.edu in the field.
- Click OK.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.
- Restart Outlook 2007.
To search for people, click on the Address Book icon at the top of your Outlook window, or click on the To... button while composing a message. Choose directory.oregonstate.edu from the Address Book drop-down list. Type the name of the person you would like to look up in the Search field.
To make directory.oregonstate.edu your default address book:
- Click on the Address Book icon at the top of your Outlook window.
- In the Address Book window, click on the Tools menu and choose Options....
- Select directory.oregonstate.edu from the Show this address list first: drop-down list.
- Under When sending mail, check names using these address lists in the following order: click on directory.oregonstate.edu and move it to the top of the list by clicking the Up Arrow button.
- Click the OK button.
Removing an account from Outlook 2007
- Click on the Start button
- Go to Control Panel
- Click on Mail
- Click on Show Profiles
- Select the account you want to remove
- Click Remove
