Constitution of Badminton Oregon State (B.O.S.)




Adopted September 4, 1998

Article I
The name of this organization shall be Badminton Oregon State (B.O.S.).

Article II
The purposes of this association are:
1. To foster interest in the sport of badminton.
2. To provide a consistent time, place, and resources to those who wish to learn and play badminton.
3. To organize activities such as competitions within the club or with other clubs in Oregon.
4. To provide a basis for players who wish to participate in Oregon tournaments.

Article III
Members
Section 1. Active Members shall be enrolled students at Oregon State University who have paid the $5 per term dues.
Section 2. Associate members shall be faculty or staff interested in badminton. They shall not be eligible to hold office or vote.
Section 3. Term by term dues of $5 shall be paid by the 2nd week of the term, after which a member will be dropped for nonpayment of dues.
Section 4. Members shall be active in club activities, events, programs, and fund-raisers.
Section 5. All voting members and officers of Badminton Oregon State must be currently enrolled for at least 6 credits at Oregon State University and pay student fees.
Section 6. Membership shall not be denied to any student on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability, disabled veteran or Vietnam era veteran status.

Article IV
Officers
Section 1. The officers of the association shall be President, Vice President, Secretary, Recruiting Officer, and Treasurer. These officers shall perform the duties prescribed by the constitution and bylaws and by the parliamentary authority adopted by the association.
Section 2. Officers shall be nominated in April or May of each year. Election shall be by secret ballot and the candidates receiving the most votes shall be named to their respective offices.
Section 3. Officers shall be elected to serve for one year or until their successors are elected, and their terms of office shall begin at the close of the meeting at which they are elected.
Section 4. Vacancies in offices shall be filled by nomination and voting of a quorum of active members.
Section 5. Officers shall have earned at least 6 credit hours in their most recently completed term. This requirement does not apply to first-term freshmen or first-term transfer students.
Section 6. Officers shall be registered for at least 6 hours currently.
Section 7. Officers shall not be on disciplinary probation.
Section 8. Officers shall have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 and not have been on probation for the most recently completed term prior to the term of election.
Section 9. A graduate student must pay student fees and meet the same requirements as an undergraduate student with the exception that full time status shall be a minimum of 6 hours with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00.

Article V
Meetings
Section 1. The regular meetings of the association shall be held each week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays unless otherwise ordered by the association or by the Executive Committee.
Section 2. The last regular meeting of April shall be known as the annual meeting and shall be for the purpose of electing officers, receiving reports of officers and committees, and for any other business that may arise.
Section 3. Special meetings may be called by the President or the Executive Committee or the association. The purpose of the meeting shall be stated in a notice at least three days prior to the meeting except in cases of emergency.
Section 4. Fifty-one percent (51%) of the members of the association shall constitute a quorum.

Article VI
Relationship
Badminton Oregon State shall have no relationship or be controlled by any other local, state, or national organization.

Article VII
Activities
The association shall hold practice and play hours during regular meetings. It will organize activities and tournaments for members and for the entire OSU community. Activities will also include competitions with other Oregon clubs such as the University of Oregon Badminton Club. The association will inform members of local tournaments and provide car-pooling and other assistance to those who wish to participate.

Article VIII
Committees
Section 1. The Executive Committee shall include the officers of the association. They shall supervise affairs of the association between its meetings, make recommendations to the association, and perform other duties as specified in the constitution and bylaws. The Executive Committee shall be subject to the orders of the association and none of its actions shall conflict with actions taken by the association. The Executive Committee shall be responsible for communicating club information to members, associate members, and the faculty advisor.
Section 2. Other committees, standing or special, shall be appointed by the President as the association or the Executive Committee deems necessary to carry on the work of the association.

Article IX
Advisor
One or more advisors shall be elected each year in the same manner as the association's officers. Responsibilities shall be those assigned by Oregon State University's Student Conduct Regulations.

Article X
Parliamentary Authority
The rules contained in the current edition of Roberts Rules of Order Newly Revised shall govern the association in all cases to which they are applicable and in which they are not inconsistent with the constitution, bylaws, and special rules of order the association may adopt.

Article XI
Amendments
This constitution may be amended at any regular meeting of the association by two-thirds vote, provided that the amendment has been submitted in writing at the previous regular meeting. All amendments must be approved by the Student Activities Committee.
