The Oregon State University Archives

The Oregon State University Archives, established in 1961, is a department of the University Libraries. The University Archives collects, describes, makes accessible to the public, and exhibits historical records created or received by OSU departments and offices and records of private origin that complement those of the university.

The University Archives holdings consist of 173 record groups of departmental and office records (2,600 cubic feet of paper records and 2,400 microfilm reels): 400 manuscript collections (1,165 cubic feet) donated by faculty administrators, alumni, or affiliated organizations; 250 photographic collections (400,000 images); 400 series (titles) of university publications; 6,000 motion picture films and videotapes; 200 oral history interviews; and a general reference file (2,500 folder titles).

The Univesity Archives' collections include records from all of the major administrative and academic units on the University dating from the University's establishment in 1868. including the President's Office, Agricultural Experiment Station, Extension Service, Student Affairs, Research Office, and the colleges of Agricultur , Home Economics, Forestry, Engineering, Science, and Liberal Arts. These records are complemented and strengthened by significant faculty papers and other manuscripts collections in forestry (e.g. Oliver Mathews Collection, Jackson F. Kimball Collection , and Gerald R. Williams collection0, wildlife conservation (e.g. William L. Finley Papers and the E.E. Wilson Papers), and agriculture ( especially the poultry industry in Oregon ). The photographic collection s include images taken by staff photographers as was those and/or assembled by private individuals; they document University programs and activities and the people and places of the state of Oregon . Prominent collections include those of the Extension Service, college of Forestry , Gifford Family, Herman T. Bohlman, and the Crown-Zellerbach Corporation.
