- EH&S and the Corvallis Fire Department perform safety and fire inspections throughout OSU
- A few unsafe conditions routinely show up on these inspections.
- The Ten Most Unwanted conditions are listed below
- All these items are easy to spot and correct - check your work areas and remove them
The Ten Most Unwanted Conditions
- Hallways and stairwells obstructed by stored material; refrigerators, chairs, table, etc
- A clear pathway is not maintained to fire extinguishers, emergency eyewash fountains, safety shower, switch panels and safety switches
- Compressed gas cylinders are unsecured
- Storage of chemicals and equipment in fume hoods that are also being used for chemical operations
- Storage of more than ten gallons of flammable liquids in glass containers per room and not in approved flammable liquid storage cabinets
- Machinery such as drill presses and pedestal grinders not secured to the floor
- Fire doors propped open
- Electrical power cords laying across walkways, creating a tripping hazard
- Electrical power cords with deteriorated insulation
- Extension cords used for permanent electrical wiring
