The College of Education at Oregon State University offers one undergraduate (Double Degree) and two graduate-level (“Immersion” and Two-Year) Professional Teacher Education Programs in Early Childhood and/or Elementary Education.
The undergraduate Education Double Degree program enables OSU students to earn two undergraduate degrees concurrently – one in their chosen field and the second in Education (BA, BS Degree). The Double Degree pathway is a 40 credit hour program that includes all the course work and field experiences (e.g., student teaching) necessary to qualify for an Oregon Initial Teaching License granted by the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC).
The graduate-level programs incorporate required course work for the ESOL/Bilingual Endorsement and master’s degree (MAT). The “Immersion” program is an intensive one-year preparation for licensure program based in culturally and linguistically diverse schools. Students who enter the program with a bachelor’s degree are placed in either a bilingual school in Salem or an inner-city school in Portland. Most of the classes are held on-site in either Portland or Salem and students are encouraged to live near their host schools. Experiences and classes in both communities are built into the program. The Two-Year program is a part-time program with course work offered on weekends. Admission to the Two-Year program is offered on odd-numbered years only.
