New fisheries management training opportunities are posted here. Opportunities are welcome from any institution or organization facilitating fisheries management training capacity. If you would like to recommend an opportunty for posting, please contact the webmaster, Laura Jodice (jodicel@yahoo.com) Graduate Certificate in Fisheries Management, Oregon State University This certificate is a partnership between the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife and the Marine Resource Management Program at Oregon State University. The program begins September 2008.This 18-credit Graduate Certificate in Fisheries Management engages graduate students in program of learning that integrates diverse approaches and perspectives to find effective solutions for complex fisheries management problems at local, state, regional, national and international levels. It is especially designed to meet the needs mid-career industry, agency, and non-governmental organization (NGO) professionals who want or need more training and experience in solving the multi-faceted problems associated with managing commercial fisheries. The flexible Graduate Certificate program is responsive to the specific needs of participants to fill gaps in their existing knowledge. For example, a stock assessment scientist may need to enhance their knowledge in economics and the social dimensions of fisheries management or a social scientist may need to learn about stock assessment and the principles of marine ecology. The Graduate Certificate will require 18 credits that include: 1) MRM 506 project, 2) A minimum of 6 credits from the human dimensions course list and 3) A minimum of 6 credits from the fisheries biology, ecology and population dynamics subject area.
