Nutsedge (Cyperus esculentus) foliage

Nutsedge (Cyperus esculentus) foliage is 'angular', for lack of a better term.  If you were to tear off a leaf from the plant, and look at its cross section, it would appear like the letter 'w'.  Nutsedge has 3-ranked leaves, that is, leaves radiate out in 3 directions from the stem (grasses have 2-ranked leaves).

The stem has a triangular cross-sectional shape.

Notice the new plant developing from rhizomes just above and below the large plant.
