OSU’s Orange Media Network wins top student media awards

Orange Media Network, the student media group at Oregon State University, racked up a number of honors at the College Media Association conference in New York City on Tuesday, March 14. Representatives of Orange Media walked away with five David. L. Adams Apple Awards at the conference and placed in a sixth category.

The awards included first place for Best Newspaper (Daily Barometer) at a four-year university with a circulation of more than 10,000, first place for Best Tweet (Daily Barometer), first place for Best News Delivery, Best Magazine Spread (Beaver’s Digest), first place for Best Radio Promo (KBVR) and third place for Best Facebook Page (Daily Barometer). OMN competed against 66 different schools and 236 total entries.

“Earning five national titles from the College Media Association is a testament to the incredible outside-the-classroom learning that is taking place at Orange Media Network,” said Candace Baltz, director of Orange Media Network. “OMN’s 450-student team members come from all majors, and because OSU doesn’t offer a journalism degree, none of them are journalism majors. The Barometer, KBVR-FM, and Beavers Digest competed against a number of programs with journalism schools to earn these awards, and that is remarkable and something we are especially proud of.”
