A winner has been announced in the OSU “Veggie Madness” campaign, and the OSU community has shown their clear preference for asparagus. This dark horse vegetable competed against a total of 15 other vegetables in the March Madness-style event that came down to four top vegetables, including red pepper, kale and broccoli.
26 percent of voters chose asparagus as their favorite, with bell peppers a close second (only 5 votes lower). Broccoli came in at 25 percent and kale received 23 percent of the votes.
Voters were able to make their choices online or in person during a two-day National Nutrition Month Event in the MU Quad earlier this week.
In celebration, the chefs at Pangea Cafe in the Memorial Union will be serving asparagus menu items next week, including a bacon and asparagus pizza, roast chicken with asparagus and leeks, and orzo salad with asparagus, spinach and feta.
