Science Connections Logo

The Science Connections program facilitates interactions between faculty and students from the College of Science at Oregon State University and the public schools in the Portland area to enhance science teaching via activities such as classroom visits, email connections, lecture series, and workshops. The program was developed in response to several factors, including the need for increased exposure of K-12 students to science and research experiences, especially in response to the new Benchmarks required by the revised Oregon State Standards; the opportunity to enhance/create the image of OSU and the College of Science in the Portland area; the desire to increase the diversity of students recruited to OSU; the goal of many OSU scientists to increase the level of scientific literacy among the public; and the desire to provide OSU science majors with practical experience in science education.
