- Conifer, evergreen tree, to 80 ft (25 m), but often a shrub in cultivarion, narrow conical crown. Young shoots are short, pubescent, yellow or red-brown. Needles densely arranged, linear-oblong, 5-15 mm long, to 2.4 mm wide, dark green, glossy, and furrowed above, two chalk white stomatal bands below. Cones are 2 cm long, ovate, and nearly sessile.
