becoming oval, open and irregular with age. Bark thin, gray tinged with green; on old tree, fissured,
dark brown with red. Leaves alternate, simple, broad-ovate to elliptic,7.5-10 cm long, tip sharp
pointed, base truncated to broad wedge-shaped, lower margin entire, upper part has coarse, dentate teeth,
upper surface dark green, lower surface gray pubescent; petiole 2.5-6 cm long. Flowers u
- Sun to part shade. Best in fertile, moist soil. Fast growing.
- Hardy to USDA Zone (2) 3 Native from Nova Scotia to Ontario and Minnesota, south to
North Carolina, Tennessee, Illinois and Iowa.
