Pinus sylvestris Nisbet's Gold (syn. Nisbet's Aurea, Aurea Nisbet) Pinaceae
Nisbet's Gold Scots Pine or Scotch Pine PI-nus sil-VES-tris
- Conifer, evergreen, bright golden yellow in winter and yellow green in summer. May grow to about 6 ft (~ 2 m) in 10 years.
- Sun.
- Hardy to USDA Zone 3 Named after A.H. Nisbet, Gosport, Hampshire, England who evidently found it; the original name was Aurea Nisbet or Nisbet's Aurea. In any case, "aurea" is the Latin word for gold and the use of Latin words in a cultivar name is, since 1957, illegitimate. Because of this, Bob Fincham, Coenosium Gardens, Eatonville, Washington, changed the name to Nisbet's Gold when he introduced it to the U.S. (personal communication, Bob Finchman).
