- Deciduous tree. Small white flowers appear before the leaves.
- Sun to part shade.
- Hardy to USDA Zone (3) 4 Discovered in a nursery in Carthage, Missouri in about 1903, but may have been discovered in Australia as early as 1792.
It or something similar is sold as the cultivar Alba. There is also another white flowering form know as Royal or Royal White, this selection originated in Illinois from a seedling tree. It is more compact, flowers earlier and more abundantly, and has larger flowers than Alba (Jacobson, 1996, also see Dirr, 1998).
