- Erect deciduous shrub, to 7-10 ft (2.2-3 m) tall, horizontally branching, branchlets densely hairy, becoming glabrous. Bark flaky, ash-gray to white. Leaves alternate, compound, 3-leaflets, each narrowly elliptic to linear, to 8-18 mm long, margins revolute to folded with adpressed hairs throughout. Flowers bright yellow, in dense arching terminal clusters to 6 cm; blooms in late spring and early summer. Fruit a pod, 3-5 cm long and about 1 cm wide, narrowly oblong, densely glandular hairy.
