Honors Experience

The Honors Experience Scholarship can provide students with up to $2,000 in support of learning experiences outside of the classroom such as study abroad, research, internships, or service learning. This scholarship is open to all UHC students.

Excellence Fund

Originally established by an anonymous donor and supported by generous contributors, the Excellence Fund provides stipends to partially reimburse students for thesis-related expenses, excluding production of the final document and expenses associated with committee meetings. Reimbursement stipends are available each term on a limited basis. Stipends in the amount of $500 to support research related expenses are available each term.

Criteria: Requires endorsement by major professor certifying that funds are requested for actual thesis research expenses. Funds may be allocated from a variety of accounts supporting thesis research. Students may only apply during terms in which they are registered for classes.

“Grandma Honors” Professional Travel Award

Supported by an endowment established by Mrs. Anita Summers, known to many Honors students as “Grandma Honors,” this Professional Travel stipend is intended to provide partial support for travel related expenses to Honors students presenting their research at a professional meeting in their field. This fund is available to currently enrolled UHC students who will not yet have graduated at the time the stipend is received. Scholarships are awarded on an individual basis and on a first come, first serve basis. Funds (up to $500) are provided to the first 10 petitioners annually.

DeLoach Work Scholarship

The DeLoach Work Scholarship program enables OSU faculty members to support undergraduates working at a task that materially enhances their academic training and that supports the instructional, curricular, or outreach missions of the university. Work Scholarships are awarded on a per-term basis. Dr. & Mrs. Daniel Barton DeLoach endowed the DeLoach Work Scholarship Fund with generous gifts and bequests between 1977 and 1988. Dr. DeLoach was an Oregon State faculty member from 1935 to 1949.

For Honors College students interested in Earth, marine, environmental and climate science. EarthSystem5 features a fast track to graduate school and a jump start to careers in research, education, policy and management of Earth resources.

OSU HHMI Summer Undergraduate Research Program

Oregon State University provides summer undergraduate research opportunities in the biological sciences to students who have completed their freshman, sophomore, or junior years of college.With primary support from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), these fellowships give undergraduates unique research opportunities with OSU researchers.

No previous research experience is required of students in the program, but each applicant must be sponsored by an Oregon State University faculty member in the biological sciences.Students who wish to participate and have not yet identified a sponsoring faculty member are encouraged to contact Kevin Ahern at 541-737-2305 or ahernk@onid.orst.edu. Fellowships pay $3800 for 11 weeks of full time research in a sponsoring laboratory, followed by student participation in an end-of-the-summer symposium.
