OSU Banner Support

Software for Access

There are three different methods of accessing Banner data: Banner Forms (also known as Banner GUI), Data Warehouse and Banner Self-service (also known as Banner Web or Web for Students/Employees/Faculty). Each access method has different software requirements.

Banner Forms

Access to Banner forms is achieved though the use of Internet/World Wide Web browser software. However, there are Java software support requirements that limit the software choices. Generally, the current versions of Internet Explorer and Netscape for Windows are supported. (CN Lite is fully supported.) Information on other operating systems and workstation requirements can be found here.

Software Distribution

The Windows and Mac OS software is available to DCAs on the OSU Technology Support Services software distribution server, for Banner Related Software.

Data Warehouse

Required software and installation instructions are available by following the "Data Warehouse" navigation link on the left. Click on the "General" category link.

Banner Self-Service

This is probably simplest of the three access methods. Only Internet/World Wide Web browser software is required. The most compatible browser software is Internet Explorer or Firefox. Other browser software will also function, but generally has not been extensively tested or confirmed for use. For any browser software used, using the latest (highest numbered) version is the best practice. Beta versions of browser software almost always have difficulty.

AOL Users: The built-in AOL browser almost never works with Banner Self-service. Install one of the standalone browsers in addition to AOL and use it after connecting to the Internet.

Please note that in order to access Banner Self-service, you must set your browser software to accept cookies because they are essential for site security, which is their only purpose.
