Research Project Title: Sustainability Assessment of a Manufacturing System
Project Overview: Increasing challenges are encouraging manufacturers to seek for novel ways to meet customers’ needs, as well as environmental and social concerns, by addressing the product, process, and system design. Thus, decision makers need to have a system-level view of the manufacturing enterprise. This study aims to understand the underlying relationships among factors impacting sustainability within manufacturing systems. As part of the research project, the undergraduate student will participate in building a model of a manufacturing system and assist in collecting supporting data and information.
What skills will students obtain in this project?
Student will learn systems modeling techniques, key concepts of sustainable manufacturing, and environmental impact assessment techniques.
Student research tasks:
The undergraduate will assist graduate students with onsite data collection, systems modeling and simulation, and environmental impact assessment.
Number of hours per week expected of student: 10
