Summer Institute on Research Methodology

The Oregon State University Summer Institute on Research Methodology is sponsored by the College of Health and Human Sciences Methodology Core and the Center for Healthy Aging Research.

This year's seminars will be held at the Kelley Engineering Building at Oregon State University. View a map to the Kelley Engineering Building here. For information about the facility, please visit the Kelley Engineering Building Website.

Faculty involved in the Summer Institute include:

Alan Acock
Oregon State University
Scott Hofer
Oregon State University

Lesa Hoffman
University of Nebraska

Andrea Piccinin
Oregon State University

Objective

Registration is now open. The registration fee for each of the basic and advanced courses is $300, or $500 for the combined courses ($200 and $350 for graduate students).

These fees include all workshop materials, use of a laptop computer containing all relevant software and programs (each shared between two individuals), lunch and coffee breaks every day, and a dinner reception on the first night of each course (July 8 and July 10).

    Agenda

Classes will run from 9:00AM to 5:00PM each day.

July 8-9:
Introduction to Latent Growth Curve Modeling and Mplus
Participants will be introduced to the analysis of nested data structures, including family and longitudinal data and will learn how to use the Mplus software.
Day 1. Introduction to multilevel models; Introduction to structural equation modeling using Mplus
Day 2. Introduction to studying change and latent growth curve modeling

July 10-11:
Advanced Latent Growth Curve Modeling using Mplus
This Institute will review latent growth curve modeling using the Mplus software and feature the extension of these basic models for multivariate outcomes, time-varying predictors, ordered categorical outcomes, and growth mixtures (i.e., group differences in trajectories).
Day 1. Specification and evaluation of the latent growth model; Including predictors and sequelae of change; Analyzing and comparing growth in multiple populations; Growth curves with binary and count variables
Day 2. Multivariate analysis of change; Piecewise and pooled interrupted time series latent growth models; Estimation with incomplete data; Introduction to growth mixture modeling.
