Your Voice, Your Conference: Awareness, Solidarity, and Action
Your Voice, Your Conference: Awareness, Solidarity, and Action explores how systems of oppression impact our lives and communities. Through this conference, participants will have the opportunity to learn about critical community issues?\whether they are local, regional, national, or global and the numerous ways that individuals and communities address critical issues that cause suffering and transform conflict to positive change.
Participants in Your Voice, Your Conference will have the opportunity to:
- Increase their awareness about social and environmental justice, diversity, gender, culture, and sustainability in communities locally, regionally, nationally, and globally;
- Engage in authentic dialogue that leads to relevant action;
- Develop skills (e.g., leadership, organizing, fundraising, media relations, facilitation, blogging, podcasts, political engagement);
- Act meaningfully to address critical community issue; and
- Build networks and community.
Your Voice, Your Conference supports participants wherever they are in the journey?\offering educational sessions for those who are beginning to learn about the critical issues communities face, those who would like to continue learning and who are exploring how to act meaningfully on their awareness, and those who would like to continue increasing their awareness and who also would like to strengthen their skills to act on the systems (e.g., political, legal, economic, and educational) that oppress individuals and communities.
Your Voice, Your Conference is a student-led and student-organized conference that is intended to be an outlet for students, professors, and community members to bring awareness about critical community issues as well as initiate social change. The strength of the conference grows from the inclusion of a variety of issues in the content of the conference and representation from minorities/underrepresented groups in the planning and organizing of the conference. One important component of the conference is the Day of Action. The Day of Action is a one-day event, which will in the future be followed by continuous solidarity and activism. A positive future for human kind, the environment, and our global community is possible!
Your Voice, Your Conference: Awareness, Solidarity, and Change is a multidisciplinary and cross-departmental collaboration supported by the Women?fs Center, Office of Community and Diversity, Diversity Development, ASOSU, Student Involvement, Community Service Center, and the Office of the Vice Provost for Student Affairs, who offer mentoring, advising, and funding.
