English 454/554 Major Authors: Joyce Carol Oates
This course will serve as an introduction to the short stories, nonfiction, and novels of Joyce Carol Oates, one of the most prolific, versatile, and celebrated contemporary American writers. We will explore her various styles and themes, and trace her development as a writer. The class will coincide with Oates's visit to OSU as the first recipient of the Stone Award for Lifetime Literary Achievement. Two long critical papers and two reading responses will be required.
WR 524 Advanced Fiction Writing
This is the advanced fiction writing workshop for students enrolled in the MFA Program in Creative Writing. Production and peer editing of original short stories and novel chapters is the focus of the course. Attendance and class participation are mandatory. Two class presentations and peer responses to each presented piece are required.
