Billy Childs
As a Grammy Award winning pianist and composer, Billy Childs has been stretching the boundaries of jazz by combining jazz with classical style string groups. Critics have called Childs “consistently innovative” and “fresh.” Of a recent album, the Wall Street Journal said, “It's impossible to tell where the jazz ends and the classical music begins.”

Mr. Childs has a degree in composition from the University of Southern California and has performed with notables such as, Freddie Hubbard, J.J. Johnson, Joe Henderson, Alan Holdsworth, Eddie Daniels, Dianne Reeves, Yo Yo Ma, Sting, and Chris Botti, among others.

Steve Wilson
As a saxophonist, Steve Wilson has toured and/or recorded with Chick Corea, Dave Holland, Michael Brecker, Dianne Reeves, George Duke, Lionel Hampton, the Mingus Big Band, the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, and many others. He has recorded seven CDs and is regularly cited in Downbeat Magazine’s Critics and Readers Polls.

Mr. Wilson is currently on the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music.

Guest Clinician:
  Dr. Matt Cooper
Dr. Matt Cooper is professor of piano and jazz studies at Eastern Oregon University and performs both jazz and classical piano. Dr. Cooper won third place prizes in the 1988 Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition and the 1988 Great American Jazz Piano Competition. He toured with Woody Herman's Young Thundering Herd and performed with Eddie Harris, Clark Terry, and many others.
Artistic Director:
  Dr. Dana Reason
Dr. Dana Reason, composer, pianist, and musicologist, is Director of Popular Music Studies at Oregon State University. She is also the Founder and Director of the Between the Cracks: A Forum for Music, Arts, Science and Ideas. Her most recent album, Revealed, has been highly regarded by critics in Downbeat, Keyboard Magazine, Jazziz, and Cadence, among others.
