Henry Henniger is an active trombone and euphonium performer and educator. A native Oregonian, Henniger started his musical career studying at Indiana University and continued at Manhattan School of Music, where he completed his master's degree in orchestral performance. While in New York, Henniger studied and performed with members of the New York Philharmonic and Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. He also worked with many other orchestras in New York and New Jersey, including the DiCapo Opera, Imperial Brass, and the Park Avenue Chamber Orchestra. In doing so, Henniger worked with some of the finest conductors of our time and was fortunate to perform in such venues as Alice Tully, Avery Fisher, and Carnegie Hall. Henniger's teachers have included Scott Hartman, Carl Lenthe, David Finlayson, Toby Hanks, Per Brevig and Joseph Alessi.
A dedicated educator, Henniger has always split his time between the performance of the music he loves and teaching and encouraging those who are on the musical path. A notable experience was his participation in the Axiom Brass Summer Seminar in Arkansas, a professional brass quintet dedicated to excellence in performance and education. As a member of the quintet Henniger taught college and high school students from around the country and performed with world renowned trumpeter Vince DiMartino. Another rewarding educational experience occurred while he was attending the Manhattan School of Music and joined the school's Outreach Program. As a participant in the nearly 90 year-old program, Henniger taught music lessons to young at-risk students living in the Bronx.
Since returning to Oregon, Henniger has performed in numerous ensembles including the Eugene Symphony, Oregon Ballet Theatre, Portland Opera, Spokane Symphony, and the Oregon Symphony. He has also been a featured soloist with several wind ensembles and orchestras throughout the Northwest. Henniger maintains a private trombone studio and is in demand as master class teacher and clinician throughout the Willamette Valley. He has also served as an adjudicator for the Oregon State Solo and District Solo contests and is the low brass instructor at the Young Musicians and Artists summer camp.
Currently, he serves as adjunct professor of low brass at Oregon State University and is the principle trombone of the Oregon Ballet Theatre and Portland Opera.
