What are your interests? How does your personality fit into your career decisions?
Career Services offers three assessments as part of the career counseling process: Discover, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), and the Strong Interest Inventory (SII). Each assessment explores your interests and personality in a slightly different way. This is valuable for students who are looking to choose a major, change a major, or just want to learn more about themselves.
Both the MBTI and SII assessments cost $14 each, which can be billed to your student account, paid for in cash or by credit card (Visa, Discover, MasterCard). Discover is free but it is necessary to contact Career Services for your individual password, 541-737-4085.
Assessments:
DISCOVER
DISCOVER is a free self-exploration assessment offered at Career Services. This program assesses your values, abilities, and interests, and then relates these areas to possible employment in which you would be the most suited. DISCOVER also allows you to explore college majors, schools, training institutions, financial aid/scholarships, and military options. It can also help you prepare for the job search process. To access Discover contact Career Services for your user ID.
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality assessment that's often used in career counseling. It's one extra helpful tool in learning about yourself and the kind of work settings that may feel most natural, and also helps you understand how you approach the career decision-making process.
Strong Interest Inventory, SII (Holland Codes)
The Strong Interest Inventory (SII) can help you gain a better awareness of your career-related interests. It is one of the most popular personality assessment tools.
The modern version shows how certain interests compare with the interests of people successfully employed in specific occupations.
The results include:
- An overview of your interest themes.
- A break-down of your interests within those themes.
- A summary of your work-style preferences.
- Lists of specific occupations, and how well they fit with your reported interests.
- Several great ideas for ways to pursue your interests, such as coursework, organizations, and internship settings
Internship Predictor
Internship Predictor is a quick and easy process to help you evaluate your personal preferences and show how they can help you pursue and secure the right internship. It is also FREE!
Remember...
Self-assessment can involve much more than taking an inventory. Our career counselors can teach you how to engage in your own self-assessment, which you will use for a lifetime. Counselors can guide you in assessing your values, and help you explore how your unique background and experiences play a role in your developing career goals.
