Iigiri Tree, Ligiri, Wonder Tree
- Broadleaf deciduous tree, to 50 ft (15 m) tall with a similar spread. Leaves alternate, simple, ovate to oblong-ovate, 12-25 cm long, margin crenate-serrate, deep green above; petiole 6-15 cm long, often reddish, with 1-3 concave glands visible in the middle. Dioecious - male and female flowers on separate trees. Flowers appear in summer, yellow-green, without petals, in terminal clusters (panicles), male clusters about 15 cm long, female clusters to 20 cm. Fruit dull orange-red or orange-brown, pea-sized (7-8 mm across), in pendulous clusters.
- Sun to light shade, best in moist, well-drained, neutral to acid soil.
- Hardy to USDA Zone 6 Native to China (Sichuan), Korea, Japan and Taiwan.
