Flying home from UVA
It has been a long, tiring and very enjoyable last week in Virginia. I had been invited to UVA to talk to the folks there about a myriad of topics, one being the metasearch developments at OSU. Great fun all around. I find how other library do digital production and view digital libraries and digital library development in general facinating — so I had a wonderful time sitting down with the folks in the library and talking shop for 2 days.
My wife on the otherhand, was able to come with me an tour the UVA campus, Charlottesville and then on Saturday, come with me to Mt. Vernon, Manassas (I’m a big civil war buff), a little antiquing, touring Montepilor (I’m sure I butchered the spelling) and finally Monticello. We took lots of pictures and I’ll post some as soon as I have a chance to upload them. Also, once I get home, I’ll probably sit down and collection my thoughts about the trip and provide a mini report on some of the interesting topics that we covered at UVA.
On a side note — Virginia is a gorgeous state. The countyside and rural areas are as pleasant as anywhere I’ve ever been and being a history person, I just love the idea of walking in the steps of our founding fathers. Likewise, I just love their crazy weather. It will nice one minute, and then the wind and thunderstorms will blow in and the rain will start coming down in buckets. And then, after 5-10 minutes, it will be gone as quickly as it had started. It was great.
Anyway, I’ve got a long flight ahead. Two hours to Atlanta and then a 3 hour layover, followed by a 5 hour flight to Portland. By the time I get into Portland, I’ll have been up for about 24 hours. Ugh.
