My first impressions of Finland

During my first trip to the lake Pyhaselka in Joensuu, this family invited me to join their camp fire.

With my new Finnish friends.

The main church of the New Valaam Monastery.

Historical information about the New Valaam (Valamo) Monastery can be found at www.valamo.fi

This cross shows the lake turn to the New Valaam Monastery.

The Lintula Monastery - small women monastery.

The boat «Sergei» takes you on a trip from the New Valaam to the Lintula monastery.

In the first half of the 20th century, many lakes in Finland were connected by canals for timber transport. Due to difference in water level, some canals have locks for ship passage.

Nice place for a dacha! Isn't it?

I am really in Finland.

The Il'inskaya Orthodox church in the town of Ilomantsi.

Traditionally Finns traveled to church by boats.

Every year in July, there is a week-long boat trip, which reflects the tradition of church boats.

The European Forest Institute from the window of my apartment.

The small church and a back side of Joensuu conservatory are also seen from my window.

The current «abundance» of furniture in my apartment :-).

My «huge» kitchen.
