Welcome to the Home Page of David Mitchell.

The Blue Star represents one child serving
in the US military, in our case our son Rob. On May 23, 2008 we
changed to 2 Blue Stars, as our son-in-law Philip is in the US
Air Force.
The Philip and Kimberly
Graves Family
was established May

Personal Information
- Born in Albertville, Alabama a long time ago, my family moved
to Sheffield, Alabama when I was less than a year old. We moved
to Birmingham when I was eight years old and I lived there until
Uncle Sam called me in 1970. I joined
the United States Coast Guard
and served in Kodiak, Alaska and New Orleans, Louisiana. I received
my freedom in the form of an honorable discharge in 1974!
- In 1975 I began attending Jacksonville
State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. In 1977 I transferred
to Auburn University in
Auburn, Alabama. I received a Bachelor of Science in Animal and
Dairy Science from Auburn in 1980. I eventually returned to school,
receiving a Master of Science and a Doctorate of Philosophy in
Agricultural and Extension Education from Mississippi
State University in 1985 and 1994, respectively.
- On September 1, 1981 (27 years as of
September 1, 2008!), I began my Extension career with
the Alabama Cooperative Extension Service as a county agent in
Bullock County, Alabama. In 1985 I moved to Cleburne County,
Alabama and had 4-H, agriculture, community resource development
and administrative responsibilities.
- From April 1994 through April 2000, I worked at the University
of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho and was responsible for curriculum
development and revision, natural resources, science and technology,
environmental education, 4-H enrollment and various other areas
in 4-H.
- I began working at Oregon
State University in Corvallis, Oregon in April 2000 and during
my four years there I was responsible for the youth leadership
programs, primarily working with junior high and high school
age programs. Some of the events I had responsibility for were
Know Your State Government, the 4-H Ambassador Program, Summer
4-H Conference and coordinating the Oregon delegation to National
4-H Conference.
- In March 2004, I began working with the 4-H
Army Project and currently am based at Fort
Sam Houston in San
Antonio, Texas. I will retain my position at Oregon State
University. Follow the 4-H Army Project link to learn more about
this program.
- My next major life goal is to retire from Oregon State University
and Federal Service on May 31, 2009. In December 2007 I received
my Federal Service 30 Year Certificate. It was promptly framed
and placed above my computer for all to see! After retirement
I plan to work at my own consulting business, Potentials Educational
Services & Training, LLC. We plan to stay in San Antonio.
- My life took a drastic, but good, turn on January 11, 1980
when I met Beverly Robinson of
Gallatin, Tennessee. Soon after we married and now have two children,
Kymberlee,
age 24 and Rob,
age 22. Beverly and I celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary
on August 22, 2008!
- On February 18, 2005, Rob graduated from Infantry School
at Fort Benning, Georgia. That night he proposed to Charlotte.
On February 11, 2006, Rob and Charlotte were married in Birmingham,
Alabama. Beverly and I had our first grandchild born on December
18, 2006 - Zachary Michael Mitchell!
- Kymberlee met the love of her life in San Antonio and she
and Philip were married May 23, 2008. They have their first child
due to arrive in June 2009!
- The photo at the top of the page includes our new grandson,
Zachary, and our new son-in-law Philip.
- The Mitchell pets include our dog Sam
and our black cat Brat.
We now live in San Antonio, Texas. We moved from Corvallis, Oregon,
in February 2004.
- Some of my interests include camping, hiking, reading, and
computers. Since moving to Texas, we have placed our membership
with the Garden Ridge church of Christ.
This is a fairly new work, six years old in December 2008, northeast
of San Antonio. In November 2004, I was appointed one of three
elders. On July 10, 2005, we met in our new building for the
first time! You can meet our elders and deacons on our web page
using the link above.
