Unfortunately with the economy being so far out of whack these days, it is difficult for the small business owner to get and keep business. Prices are rising and as a small business owner, I have had to adjust my prices accordingly. People are definitely feeling the crunch and I need to keep thinking of new and innovative ways to advertise and keep my customers coming back. Let’s face it, we all like free items and so as an entrepreneur I thought to myself, how can I give away stuff and make it beneficial to my customers and myself. Then I came across some really great promotional products to give away to customers. Now, if you are unfamiliar with promotional products then let me just tell you, these are items that you can give away to customers and clients and even to employees. They are for the most part practical items such as umbrellas, coffee mugs, travel bags, T shirts, and key chains. A promotional items company will then imprint which ever items you like with your company logo and name right on them, then when people use their promotional items, they will be seen by all and so in that sense these items are free advertising for your business. Well, honestly it is not exactly free, but it is so inexpensive and a great way to retain customers, they love the fact that you give them free stuff. So basically it works not only to help retain a strong customer base, but at the same time provides a much needed source of advertising at the same time. The best source of advertising is your own customers and who better to ask about your company then the person holding the item with your company name right on it. Now, not only are you getting your name out there, but many times when asked about the company name on their item, your customers will throw in some free word of mouth advertising as well.

I do realize that in these tough economic times, it is hard to envision spending a few extra dollars on this kind of stuff, however, you must understand that the cost for this stuff is minimal compared to the type of exposure it will give your business. Not to mention the fact that it is a great way to hang on to your current customer base as well. We small business owners have to do all we can to compete with the larger companies for business and this is a great way to do just that.

Six sigma training is the newest most innovative way for companies to get the most out of their employees and their business. Recently used by many large corporations, these training programs involve a multi tiered approach to their training which is modeled after the belt system in Karate and other similar martial arts.

You can either take these seminars in person or for a more convenient self paced approach they are available online as well. These training programs are becoming a necessity for the companies that want to keep their employees on the top of their game. The six sigma approach to business is constantly encouraging your employees to stop what they are doing, examine how well they have done it and then implement improvements. This approach, in a sense allows everyone input into the business at their own level. It allows for a more all inclusive approach to the business. For the management this means that they don’t need to follow everyone around all the time and police them, this also means that the employees feel more involved on the corporate level, meaning that you will have better employee moral, accountability and retention.

This approach is rapidly working its way into all businesses including those service related businesses as well as product based industry. The idea of this system is to allow your employees to train up the ladder, getting every employee six sigma trained and allowing them to excel in the areas that they already take the lead in. The approach is new, but the six sigma tools are actually things that have been in use for a while. Six sigma just reorganized these tools and added a few, for what they feel will be the optimal results. Originally created by Motorola, this six sigma approach has been used and found so effective that in addition to Motorola large corporations such as GE, governmental agencies, non-profit organizations, health care systems, and service related companies have all begun to implement the six sigma approach, finding it very successful.

Six Sigma has both management and technical components. On the management side, it focuses on goals, getting the right people for the right projects, and sustaining gains over time. On the technical side, the focus is on improving performance using a disciplined, focus process improvement methodology which has four key stages: measure, analyze, improve and control. The approach is very statistical and is linked and sequenced in a unique way that is both easy to use and effective.

I just received a job offer at a local company and it is a pretty good deal. I would start at around thirteen dollars an hour and be up to fifteen in about a year. My family health insurance would start in two months after the starting date. With a Wife and three children I feel that this is a good move, but it would be third shift. Ten thirty to Six thirty and my wife is not crazy about the hours. My friend Tony Drives for this company one day a week, Sunday. He tells me the work inside is boring and hard and he is landscaping earning a lot more money than they are paying. He also said he paints, and does some small repairs. I guess he is doing well because he is sending his kid to Italy for a month thru some type of program. Tony said it was six thousand out of his pocket with the discount thru the organization he is involved in. I guess I felt jealous, but he does say he needs family health insurance and will have to purchase it. I guess that is the downside to being your own boss, But still would love to be. I worked steady for a company for five straight years before they downsized and currently have my children covered by the government and I have to go to the clinic if I need something. Having Family health insurance is very important today, not that I used it a lot, but let me tell you that when I lost my job we had three different instances which required doctor visits and one emergency room visit. Of course they could not find anything wrong with my seven year olds leg after two sets of xray’s and a full day followed by another doctor visit, but it can be expensive without insurance. So maybe for now I am settling on an okay job, but I know tht i will have good family health insurance untill something better comes my way. My wife teaches at our local elementary school and does not receive insurance or pay over the summer. We are both talking about returning to school and I am sure the future will hold many more
challenges for us, but together as a family we will survive and hopefully achieve all of our goals in life.

Some of the ideas that I have tried or had others try is advertise on cars. Bumper stickers are a great cheap advertisement for your business and if they have an innovative design or funny cartoon even better. When you give out bumper stickers they can wind up anywhere so they travel all over advertising for you. You can have imprinted advertising put on your vehicle, or you can write advertising on your windows if you want with those window paint pens. You can give out promotional pens with each purchase, and believe me pens are a well traveled items. Also promotional umbrellas are great as well because they are big and stand out, especially if done in the right colors. Promotional umbrellas do cost a little more than my other suggestions, but the great thing about them is they are big and people hang onto umbrellas for years and years which means more advertising time for you.

Here is another really neat idea you can try, and believe me these ideas do work. Go to your local bank, Walmart, grocery store, convenience store, post office and hang up flyers or even a better free (well almost free) idea is to donate money in the places they put those little things up to tell the name of who donated and put your business name on there. Usually a few dollars will put your name up on the store wall, and what better advertisement then that you give back to the community.

Keep your ideas creative and find a good company to buy some promotional items from. There are all different ways to advertise a business, but your ideas will be the best for you!

These days with the rising cost of everything in the world, I swear to you my auto insurance is the most reasonable that it has ever been. I know everywhere you turn you hear about the rising costs of this and that, but honestly I haven’t had this good a rate in years. Perhaps it is just that I am getting older, you know that in addition to your actual driving record there are many other factors that your insurance company uses to determine your car insurance rate.

Your credit rating is one factor that insurance companies use to determine your rate. It seems unfair to me that your credit rating is a factor. Although I do believe that having a good credit rating is important, I don’t necessarily think that the cost of your auto insurance should go up because of it. As a matter of fact your credit rating which is an assessment of your credit risk includes information about how many credit cards and loans you have and if you pay your bills on time or not. This information is used by the insurance companies because it is generally understood that most people who are responsible with their credit and finances will be responsible in other aspects of their life. Someone with good credit is motivated to minimize risk, and someone who tends to minimize risk is less likely to get into a car accident, which furthermore means they are not as likely to file a claim. Since those who are not as likely to file a claim are more desirable to auto insurance companies, these people are likely to get more favorable rates. A credit score of 700 or above can affect your insurance rate policy positively, whereas a rating of 600 or below may affect it negatively.

Whether you are aware of it or not, your level education determines how much you can pay. The more education you have the less of a risk your insurance company feels that you are and the better your rates will be. By factoring in your education level, an insurance company is saying that the better educated you are the better your judgment will be and the safer and more responsible you will be on the road.

Other factors that insurance companies use are your age, sex, and marital status. Also, taking an occasional driving class can also lower your insurance rates. Rest assured that knowledge is the key and having the information by which your insurance company assesses your rates will help you keep your cheap auto insurance rates for a lifetime.

If you were looking to purchase a bottle of water at your local convenience store, you’ll notice that water is no longer the ideal beverage for the athletically minded. Energy drinks are all the rage, and the dwindling supply of water has been flavored and fortified within an inch of its life to suit our need for a superior beverage. But are these drinks really superior?

Commercials and spokespeople would say yes, of course. But to the average consumer, your definition of superior may be something else entirely. Take energy drinks:

You want your energy drink to taste good. You also want it to give you a boost of energy. By this definition, most energy drinks at least past muster although a fair share requires a chaser due to a lingering aftertaste. If your definition requires something as profound as natural ingredients or health benefits, you’re out of luck.

Until now.

The alternative energy drink is arriving in stores now, although it’s been there for years in other forms. You can skip the syrupy energy drinks in favor of a truly natural alternative.

Revolution 3D is a white tea fortified with essential vitamins and flavored with superfruit. Like any tea, your energy will rise with a few sips and the taste is smooth. As it can be served cold, Revolution 3D is also totally refreshing.

Compared head to head with the leading energy drinks, and even all those flavored waters, this tea energy drink has an added bonus. In additional to the natural ingredients and the vitamins, you will also be receiving the health benefits of white tea with every mouthful. Powerful antioxidants will help cleanse your system and possibly even protect you from cancer and other serious diseases. That’s a lot to ask from an energy drink, but the alternative energy drink actually delivers.

The world behind the scenes in the hotel business is something I don’t think many people really understand. I have been working for a major hotel chain, which shall remain unnamed, for the summer so far. I am sure that everyone has seen the specials and news reports about the horrors of the hotel business, but I don’t want to talk about that. From where I stand in this whole thing, I really seen more interest in the actions of the customers who frequent the hotel than anything the staff does.

I think there is something special for most people in even the thought of staying in a hotel for a night. Most of us feel a certain degree of freedom because we are not obligated to clean or maintain anything else in our lives while we stay there. Most of us just enjoy this experience to a certain point and then just settle in. For others though, the hotel experience is a place where anything is fair game. I have turned some rooms over that looked like someone had gotten in to a street fight inside. I have turned over rooms where it looks as if the little single room had a whole extended family of pack rats living inside for years without sunlight.

One of the most curious phenomenon of the hotel experience is the interaction of the staff with business people. At our hotel we have conferences every weekend and business offices that hold meeting s every day of the week. These aren’t the most exciting things to oversee and help with, but there are some perks. Whenever these meetings get catered the staff always ends up with a huge free breakfast. There was one time that we were hosting a conference where every one in attendance got a corporate gift basket. These corporate gift baskets were chock full of fun little items that included food and other cool vouchers for stuff in town here. I was really excited to see that when we were turning over the rooms, there were about fifty of these gift baskets left behind. This was spread out among the staff of twenty service people. It’s a pretty cool world behind the walls of freedom.

I recently read in a magazine about the drastic measures women go through to look good on their wedding day. The majority of the poll said that they would be willing to starve themselves for a week before the ceremony so that they fit into their dress nicely. Others said that they would be willing to gain up to twenty pounds after their wedding if they could lose just five for that special day. Then, along with other ridiculous suggestions for looking great on the “best day of your life”, was 4 percent of women who agreed that they would go under the knife in order to look perfect. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Lipo seemed like a pretty drastic solution to me. I know there are other alternatives like smartlipo which could have been included in that category, but smart lipo cost still seems a little outrageous to look good for one day. What I don’t understand is that you have looked that way probably all, if not most of your life and you met a man who loves you and obviously likes the way you look enough to want to stay with you and be married to you, so why are you changing your looks for the wedding? The people that RSVP yes to an event, especially a wedding aren’t going just to see how great the bride looks. You don’t see people walk into the church, get a glimpse of the bride and then just walk out as if the event is over. The guests are coming to support the bride and groom on their day, they already love them and want to spend that day with them. So why would anyone feel the need to change the way they look by using such drastic measures for one day? The procedure has to be done in advance anyways so why not just diet and exercise the healthy,
old fashion way? Although some cases, the with smart lipo, the procedure is less painful, since they use a laser, the smartlipo cost is still high. It would be a heck of a lot cheaper and a lot better for the individual in the long run. Since exercise and healthy eating help your body internally and externally and make you feel better about yourself. Where as lipo is changing your appearance, but that is it.
I guess I just don’t understand why just drastic measures need to be taken when there are easier and safer routes that can be taken instead.

In most cases I was given an exam and in some cases x-rays. In some cases I was given physical therapy and in some cases I was not. Some people adjust using special equipment like moving tables and a little poppy pen (called an activator). Some chiropractors just adjust with their hands and that worked well too. Many chiropractors just wanted to look at adjusting certain areas, while others wanted to adjust me all over every time I saw them. I know this sounds like a lot but realize I have been doing this kind of research for about 2 and ½ years now, and I am starting to feel like an expert in everything.

After researching Maryland chiropractors for about 2 years I decided that I really needed to take this show on the road and check out some of the other chiropractors in the US. I was concerned that looking only at Maryland chiropractic was limiting my perspective on the profession so I decided to go to different states and check out other chiropractors and what I found across the US so far has been pretty similar to what I found in Maryland.

In short my findings are that there are many different ways of practicing chiropractic. I don’t know how chiropractors are learning such different things being that there are only a limited number of chiropractic schools in the country. So, I finally needed to ask some questions. I called a few of the schools and what I learned was that chiropractic school teaches many different techniques but very basically. They teach the hard core sciences and some chiropractic philosophy, but as far as techniques go, students and new doctors take seminars in the techniques that they wish to specialize in. That is why they all go to the same schools but practice chiropractic in such different ways. I really learned a lot by doing this research.
