Italy is such a beautiful place although I have not been myself, my grandmother and her family are from there. She was born and raised in Italy and I have seen the pictures. What amazing sites to see there! She talks most often about the old country and enjoys telling her stories about what things were like when she was a child growing up there.
Her and my granddaddy went on a trip there for their 40th wedding anniversary, and they sent me the most beautiful postcards from all over. They sent me postcards from Tuscany with pictures of the rolling hills and castles covered in vines. Postcards from Rome with Coloseum on them. They sent me post cards from Venice (the city over water) and all the canals and gondolas. They sent me postcards from Sardinia and the beautiful Sardinia apartments, or were they Sardinia villas, I can’t remember. When they came back from Italy all my grandmother could speak about was how beautiful it was there and how nice it was to speak Italian again! She couldn’t stop commenting on how beautiful the Italy apartments were and how she loved staying in the Italy villas. She said the villages were very quaint and homey. She said she had waited her whole life to return to her homeland, and is so glad that she had finally gotten to take granddaddy to her home.
My grandparents are very touching to watch. They love each other so much, it is hard to believe that after 40 years of marriage their feelings for each other are so strong. Maybe that is why though. I guess if you spend that much of your life with another person, no matter how much they drive you crazy, they become like your right hand, just something you can’t live without. One day, I guess, they will be separated by death, but for right now I truly enjoy watching their love for each other and hoping that I too can find that kind of love someday. I am really grateful for the fact of having grandparents and I hope they will still be around when I have kids, so they can be great-grandparents. I know they would really be great great-grandparents. Can’t wait!
