Course Objectives: In this course you will learn to

• become more familiar with some grammatical rules of English by studying them as they are presented in the textbook
• use these structures in textbook and workbook exercises
• use these structures in your own writing
• practice recognizing and correcting errors in the use of these structures as they appear in your own writing and the writing of others
• improve your general ability to communicate effectively, especially in written English

Evaluation:

You will receive a letter grade (A, B, C, etc.). When grading, I will take into account:

a) essays (3)	40%
b) tests and quizzes (2)	40%
c) in-class activities and homework assignments	20%

To do well in this class you must attend regularly, participate actively, and do homework faithfully (and on time!). That said, please observe these general items:

• Come to class on time and prepared for the day's work. Much of the responsibility for your success in improving your grammar rests with you.
• If you miss a class it is your responsibility to learn about the assignment for the next class and to do that assignment. Asking one of your classmates is the best approach.
