Couture Places Third in Pan American Greco-Roman Wrestling;
Gutches Earns a No. 1 Seed at Trials for U.S. Freestyle Team

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Randy Couture, an assistant wrestling coach at Oregon State University, placed third this past weekend in his Greco-Roman weight class in the Pan-American Championships in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Wrestling in the 213.75-pound division, Couture won by technical fall over Daniel Iglesias of Argentina in 1:44 of the third-place final.

Couture will now prepare for the final trials for the Greco-Roman United States National Team, to be held June 26-28 in Minneapolis. Those qualifying for the U.S. team will advance to the Greco-Roman World Championships, to be held Sept. 8-13 in Warsaw, Poland.

This weekend, OSU assistant coaches Les Gutches and Chad Renner will be in Las Vegas to wrestle in the final trials for the freestyle United States National Team. Gutches is seeded No. 1 at 187.5 pounds, while Renner will wrestle at 167 pounds. Those making the U.S. team will go to the Freestyle World Championships, to be held Aug. 29-Sept. 1 in Krasnoyarsk, Russia.
