Volunteer Opportunities

The Women's Center welcomes volunteers from all class years and fields of study. Volunteers fill a variety of roles at the Center, including working regular weekly shifts and/or assisting on an as-needed basis with special projects and events. Internships & Practica

The Women’s Center is open to creating customized intern and practicum positions based on an individual’s needs, skills, and interests. A list of possible internships follows. Intern and practicum candidates must indicate interest a minimum of three weeks prior to the term they wish to begin. To be considered for an internship, please contact Beth Rietveld, Women's Center Coordinator.

Diversity Intern: Works to build bridges and coalitions with other oppressed groups on campus by attending functions, planning meetings, cultural center outreach in person and by letters as Women's Center representative. Develops and implements educational programs about women from diverse backgrounds, as well as workshops on cross-cultural communication.

Coalitions Intern: Works closely with Diversity intern, ASOSU, faculty, administrators and staff to develop strong coalitions to end discrimination and oppression on campus and the greater community. Develops and implements workshops on coalition building, meeting facilitation, and activism that gets results. Works with programming coordinator and staff to identify faculty, administrators and staff who are eager to work with the Women's Center to end oppression through educational programming and special events.

Women in Transition Intern: Works with LBCC's multicultural center and community agencies to facilitate a successful transition into and out of higher education, specifically at OSU for returning women students and women in transition. Maintains a working relationship with Financial Aid, Admissions and Orientation, Counseling and Psychological Services, Career Services and other support services to allow advocacy and quick referral for transitional women in need of those services. Develops and implements educational and support programs to assist women in making their transitions, such as career decisions, self?esteem, budgeting, thinking about graduate school, and getting involved in co?curricular activities.

Fundraising/Grant Writing Intern: Works with Women's Center Advisory Committee and Coordinator to identify funding and write grants to further the Women's Center's mission and to ensure its longevity. Works with staff and other interns to coordinate fund raising drives for more emergency blue light phones, CARDV or other groups identified as needing support.

Web Editor: Responsible for updating the web, including further research for feminist web sites to add to the web links page, further design refinement, new ideas for other sections and putting newsletter on the web.

Leadership Intern: Works with Faculty Women's Network, Student Involvement and others to create and maintain a mentoring network as well as workshops to address concerns of women student leaders. Develops and implements educational programs to enhance women leaders' skills, such as public speaking, group facilitating, budgeting concerns for student groups, and getting students involved.

Public Relations Intern: Works to get the Women's Center's services and location out to everyone on campus through creative means which might include posters designed by graphic arts, fun events, news articles, appearances on KBVR radio and television, and other forms of media.

Library and Research Intern: Responsible for library and resource file maintenance and updating. Includes compiling wish list of new books needed for library and gathering articles and other news worthy items for resource file.
