October 12, 2004 - Women's Center Open House - 3:00-4:30pm

The Women's Center welcomes the University Community to visit our space and learn more about the services and programs offered here. Refreshments will be served.

October 25, 2004 - Political Rescue: The Women's Center Makes the Election Quick and Easy - 12:00noon-1:00pm - Memorial Union Lounge

Professor Robert Sahr will be presenting where both the Presidential candidates stand on the issues.

October 25, 2004 - Myths About Sexual Assault: A Community Forum - 5:30-6:30pm

Among women survivors of sexual assault, more then 80% report that sexual

assault involved someone they know. Less then 10% of all rapes are committed by

strangers. A panel of sexual assault survivors will discuss their personal

experiences, detailing the difference between stranger and acquaintence rape

and what those differences mean for the OSU community.

October 27, 2004 - The Clothesline Project - All Day at the MU Quad

The Clothesline Project is a chance to break the silence about violence

against women. The project displays T-shirts made by women survivors of

violence. Also available will be the materials to make shirts of your own to

add to the clothesline. You can stop by the Women's Center October 25th or 26th

to make a shirt in a more private setting.

October, 27, 2004 - Issues/Social Justice Song and Poetry Circle - 3:00-5:00 p.m., OSU Women's Center

Sing, lead or request a song, recite a poem...or just listen. Bring an instrument if you'd like (guitar, hand percussion, etc.) All are welcome.

November 10, 2004 - From Global Awareness to Global Action 1-8pm

Memorial Union

We are helping to co-sponsor this event. There are lot of things to do all day long, check out the attached flyer.

November 12, 2004 - Voices From the Middle East: Addressing Stereotypes and Misconceptions - 4:30-6:00 Women's Center - A panel of OSU students from the Middle East will discuss common stereotypes about their countries and talk about their personal experiences, culture, religion, women's issues, and the US.

November 15, 2004 - We're Pissed Off...So What Are We Going To Do About It?

2:00-3:00pm Women's Center. Facilitator: Terryl Ross

This is a meeting for under-represented students, faculty, and staff who feel their needs and issues are not being addressed in the political environment. If you would like to come together with others to work towards a united fight for representaion, join us at the Women's Center. Bring your voice and your ideas.

Ben Fisher from OSU Financial Aid will provide information on how to locate scholarships.

Dennis Bennett from the OSU Writing Center will provide quidance on essential elements of a good scholarship application.

November 17, 2004 - Birth Control 101, 3pm

Come join in an honest and frank discussion about birth control options with SHS's Deborah Popper. We'll also be making condom leis...aloha!

November 18, 2004 - Staying Well in Stressful Times 1-2 pm

Women's Center

As finals draw near, take an hour out of your busy schedule to learn about stress management, wellness, and healthy living. Hosted by our very own, Cynthia Briggs.

November 22, 2004 - The Skinny on Eating Disorders and Body Image 12noon-1pm at the Women's Center.

Mariette Brouwers is lecuturing on the basics of eating disorders and body

image. She will discuss the reasons people start getting involved with eating

problems and will suggest ways for people to help their friends who are dealing

with them and ways you may want to help and things you should and should not

say. It is an overall general presentation of this topic, and will also have

time for Q and A. SPEDA (Student Promoting Eating Disorder Awareness) is co-sponsoring this event, and will have a few members talk about the importance of spreading awareness.

November 23, 2004 - The Reality TV Craze, the Effect on Women, and the Plastic Surgery Epidemic 10:00-11:00am at the Women's Center.

OSU student Chris Sebastiani will be presenting her thesis. She has extensively studied the effects that the new reality tv craze has on women, the plastic surgery epidemic that is closely tied to it, and how women are portrayed in the shows. Should be an interesting subject, so please come if you can!

November 30, 2004 - World Premiere Movie:Women Are...Leading Change 7pm in MU 213.

The Women's Center, Benton County Health Department, and Peer Health Advocates are excited to bring you this great opportunity to see a new film from the United Nations and the YWCA. This movie highlights the women who are taking charge in the fight against HIV and AIDS. A discussion will follow lead by Donna Champeau.
