About Me:
My name is Teri Young. I'm 25 and I am majoring in Accounting. (I know that was a little bland).
I am what one would call a "townie", meaning that I was raised in Corvallis. This is not necessarily my favorite place in the world, but I'm doing what I have to do to finish this degree. I come from a big family, I'm the fourth of five kids. I enjoy taking naps, eating delicious food, being outside, and helping others. Some of my favorite things are reality television, tropical fish, traveling, urban music styles, and brownies. I know those are all very random, which is a huge reflection of my personality.
Currently, I work on campus with the cultural centers and I love my job. I have an awesome boss and get to work on some very fun and effective projects. This term, I look forward to attending the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in American Higher Education along with my other co-workers in Chicago. Last year, we presented on behalf of Oregon State University about the student-run cultural centers, and will be returning this year with an updated presentation as well as a new original presentation. I enjoy my work in diversity efforts and love to share information if any one has questions.
Wiki Plan:
My plans for contributions to the OSU Wiki revolve mainly around what organizations I am already involved with on campus. I would hope that this might include pages, comments, or general information about the cultural centers and other diversity related programs and activities. Working in this arena, I am constantly updated on campus issues, so I will definitely be contributing to that section of the wiki. I might also contribute some class notes once I figure out how to get that all worked out. Although not this term, I am usually a notetaker for SSD and am curious about how that is shaping up.
Overview of Wiki Contributions:
DRAFT as of 4/28/06:
I created a page under Campus/Organizations for the information about the Cultural Centers. On this page I introduced the Centers listing their names, locations, and contact information. I also included links to their websites so that users can explore for themselves.
To give the page some structure, I created other headings like "Ways To Utilize The Centers", "Upcoming Events", "How To Get Involved", and links to other diversity related centers (Women's Center and Pride Center).
As I revise my contributions, I think that I might move the location of this page to the Main Page. I consider this because the structural organization of the Centers under OSU administration would place them higher than just an organization, like a student organization. I am going to share this idea with Mercedes Benton, who is the Coordinator for Diversity Development to see where she believes it fits.
I'm enjoying adding this and hope that my wiki contribution is able to help others in their experience at OSU!
Final Wiki Contributions
So in the end I decided to scrap my idea about adding to the class notes because I simply haven't been taking any and don't see how I would contribute. I've put information under each of my headings, using a personal point of view. Hopefully my enthusiasm for the centers will come across in my encouragements for students to get involved. The centers are currently hiring, so I added a link to that. In addition to hyperlinking the websites of the centers, I added snippets of the center histories and purposes to hopefully give people an idea of what they are and get them interested to at least look at the websites.
Ultimately, I moved the page to the Main Page for more prominent access. After talking this over with some people at the office, we felt this was best. I don't know how to get rid of the location I had it at previously, but yet and still I am pleased with my work.
For the Upcoming Events section I wasn't able to get a listing of upcoming events, but I do know that all cultural events are required to be posted on the University Web Calendar, so I figured that was my next best option.

Your plan looks great, and I'm sure you will have a lot of useful information to add to the OSU wiki. But as your other mentor said, it's just time to get going on the actual set up of the page. (Don't worry, I haven't really started either.) I'm looking forward to seeing what you create!

You have set up a useful outline for the cultural pages on campus. Unfortunately, it looks like no one has helped you fill these in. Your wiki plan says that you are planning to work on these pages and add some general information, so now all you need to do is flush those pages out. Your plan also says that you would like to try adding notes to the class notes page. I looked at the official OSU class notes wiki, and it is relatively bare compared to how many classes are offered at this university, though I think this wiki could be very helpful if more people knew about it and how to use it. So the best you can do now is add your notes, even if it doesn't happen this term (especially if you are focusing on finishing the cultural pages by Friday). Good luck with your pages, I'll check back at the end of the week to see how they shaped up!

I looks like you have done some great work, the Cultural Centers page looks very good, it could use some more information and events, but as of yet, what you have is great.

Because the final wiki contributions are due tomorrow, I'd probably recommend again to add some more information to the Cultural Centers page if you could. It's good that you have the links to all the centers, but it might be nice to include some personal insight into the centers with which you are involved. Also, including links to individual contributions you have made would enhance your mytalk page and make it easier to view your contributions.

It looks like you have the layout for the Cultural Centers page done pretty well. I guess I would recommend that sometime in the next week or so you add some information to the subheadings of "Ways to Utilize the Centers," "Upcoming Events," and "How to Get Involved." Also, on your "my talk" page you might want to list some of your individual contributions with links to those sections to make it easier to know exactly what you've added to the wiki.

It is obvious that you are very knowledgable about the cultural centers on campus, and so it makes perfect sense to contribute some of that knowledge to the OSU wiki. I suppose now you just need to set up the links from the main page of the OSU wiki, and decide exactly what information should be included that would be beneficial to readers.
